titleOfInvention | Improved manufacture of oil from vulcanised rubber |
abstract | Oil obtained by the distillation of vulcanized rubber is deodorized by distilling at atmospheric or reduced pressure in presence of a suitable mineral acid, treating the distillate with a solution of sodium hypochlorite or bisulphite, then with caustic soda or potash solution, and finally washing, decanting or centrifuging, and filtering the oil through a clay-containing earth, e.g. fuller's earth. Acids specified are sulphuric, phosphoric, metaphosphoric, pyrophosphoric, and boric. Preferably the rubber is very finely divided or is dissolve, e.g. in heavy oil obtained from rubber, and is distilled at reduced pressure in presence of an alkali, an alkaline carbonate, an alkaline earth, or a mixture to fix the free sulphur. The still is preferably provided with a dephlegmator column, to condense and return the less volatile hydrocarbons, and with a stirrer to agitate the mass throughout the distillation to prevent formation of a crust on the walls of the still.ALSO:Oil obtained by the distillation of vulcanized rubber is deodorized by distilling at atmospheric or reduced pressure in presence of a suitable mineral acid, treating the distillate with a solution of sodium hypochlorite or bisulphite, then with caustic soda or potash solution, and finally washing, decanting or centrifuging, and filtering the oil through a clay-containing earth, e.g. fuller's earth.
