titleOfInvention | Assay for adrenal autoantibodies useful in the diagnosis of addison's disease |
abstract | The adrenal autoantigen preferably used in the assay is characterised as a protein obtainable from the microsome fraction of the adrenal gland, having a molecular weight of about 50,000 to 60,000 (preferably 55,000) and antigenic towards adrenal autoantibody. The protein in native, recombinant or modified form as well as fragments thereof comprising an epitope for adrenal autoantibody and antibodies against the protein or fragments thereof are preferably used in a method and kit for detecting adrenal autoantibodies. The autoantigen is preferably steroid 21-hydroxylase. The isolation of adrenal autoantigen-specific T cells, and the production of steroid 21-hydroxylase by yeast cells is also disclosed. |
