abstract The invention relates to a guide plate for guiding a control rodlet cluster assembly in its movements within a guide tube of a nuclear reactor, the guide plate having a central coolant-flow orifice 44 and a plurality of control-rodlet guide holes 46, 47 extending therethrough. According to the invention, the guide plate is provided also with a plurality of vent openings (55a, 55b, 59) arrayed to reduce the velocity of coolant flow through the central orifice (44) and to minimize turbulence in a region surrounding the central orifice on the downstream side of the guide plate (42), thereby to minimize rodlet vibration as well as friction and fretting between the rodlets and the guide-hole walls. <IMAGE>
