abstract |
A slatted shutter, which comprises a plurality of flexibly linked elongate panels; characterised in that each elongate panel is a laminated panel comprising a load-bearing portion (6), and a fire-resisting portion (3); the load-bearing portion comprising a core of load-bearing material (9), the major faces of said core being provided with skins of stiff material (7, 8); and the fire-resisting portion comprising an outer skin of fire-resistant fibre-reinforced resin (4) and an inner core (5) of heat-insulating material. The skin surrounding the load bearing core may also be made of fibre-reinforced resin or of metal. The cores may be polymeric foam, cement-based foam, plywood or balsa. The core of the load bearing portion may also be a metallic honeycomb. In an embodiment the fire resistant skin is made of layers of woven cloth of carbon and glass fibres woven at right angles and impregnated with phenolic resin.
