titleOfInvention | Fish disease diagnosis |
abstract | A probe 1 for use in diagnosing a condition (such as a disease) of fish is provided with a test portion 11 which is coated with monoclonal antibodies to an antigen of a bacterium responsible for the condition. The test portion 11 is inserted into fish tissue and, after a suitable period of incubation, extracted and incubated with an enzyme-antibody conjugate. After washing, the test portion 11 is incubated with substrate for the enzyme. If colour develops during the second incubation, the presence of bacterial antigen in the original fish tissue is confirmed, thereby enabling disease to be confirmed. The invention has particular application in the diagnosis of enteric redmouth and furunculosis in salmon trout fish farms. <IMAGE> |
