abstract A cosmetic composition suitable for combating greasy appearance of hair which comprises, in a suitable cosmetic vehicle, at least one polymer derived from chitosan comprising only units of the formulae: <IMAGE> in which unit A is present in a proportion of from 0 to 30% by weight, unit B is present in a proportion of from 5 to 50% by weight and unit C is present in a proportion of from 30 to 90% by weight, all proportions being relative to the weight of the polymer; in which R is a group of formula: <IMAGE> in which n is 0 and R1, R2 and R3, which may be identical or different, each are hydrogen, a methyl, hydroxyl, acetoxy or amino group, an alkylthio group in which the alkyl moeity bears an amino group, or a monoalkylamino or dialkylamino group, each monoalkylamino or dialkylamino group optionally being interrupted by one or more nitrogen atoms and/or substituted with one or more amine, hydroxyl, carboxyl, alkylthio or sulphonic groups; with the proviso that at least one of R1, R2 and R3 is hydrogen; or in which n is 1 and each of R1, R2 and R3 is hydrogen; or a salt thereof with a base or an acid.
