abstract |
A process is provided for producing glutaric acid through oxidation of cyclopentene using a ruthenium compound oxidizing agent. The solvent for the reaction system is usually a halogenated hydrocarbon or a mixture of a halogenated hydrocarbon and an aliphatic nitrile. The oxidizing agent is added continuously or intermittently together with a co-oxidizing agent, such as sodium hypochlorite, in an aqueous alkaline solution. The process makes it possible to produce glutaric acid efficiently from cyclopentene. |
