abstract | Bleaching compositions, e.g. detergent bleaching compositions and other laundry additive products contain aliphatic peroxyacid bleach precursors of formula <IMAGE> where L is a leaving group of formula (a> <IMAGE> or (b> <IMAGE> wherein R2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, X is 0 or 1 to 4 and Y is -SO3M, -OSO3M, CO2M, -N(R2)3Q, -N(R2)2->O wherein M is H, alkali metal, alkali earth metal, ammonium or substituted ammonium and Q is a halide or methosulphate, and the group <IMAGE> is an organic moiety of non-linear configuration, at least one of R<11> and R<111> being hydrogen the other R<11> and R<111> being selected from hydrogen and C1 to C4-alkyl groups. Preferably the precursors are alkali metal, ammonium or substituted ammonium 2-ethyl hexanol oxybenzene sulphonates or 3,5,5-trimethyl hexanoyl oxybenzene sulphonates. Flexible containers and laminated sheets incorporating the precursor are described. The precursor are employed together with a source of alkaline hydrogen peroxide. |
