abstract A process for the manufacture of sulphonated mixtures of fatty acid esters and organic compounds, the sulphonation product whereof are detergent-active, comprises preparing the sulphonated fatty acid ester with an excess amount of sulphur trioxide, adding the organic compound in a quantity which is less than 80 mole % of the excess sulphur trioxide, and neutralizing the reaction mixture. High degrees of sulphonation are achieved.
