titleOfInvention | Porous spherical cellulose acetate particles |
abstract | Porous, spherical particles consist substantially of cellulose acetate, having an acetylation degree of 49 to 60% (i.e. an esterification degree of 2.0 to 2.8), a particle diameter of 0.05 to 10 mm, a sphericity of at least 0.7, a pore volume of at least 0.4cc/g and a collapsing strength of at least 9 kg or higher. The particles are made using a dope comprising a solution formed by dissolving a cellulose acetate of the above degree of esterification in an acetic acid/water (80/20 to 90/10, by weight) solvent so that the concentration of the cellulose acetate is 25+/-7 wt.%, feeding said dope through a supply pipe to a coagulation bath comprising an acetic acid/water (30/70 to 42/58, by weight) solvent and having a temperature of 40+/-5 DEG C; operating an agitator having blades passing near a discharge port on the end of said supply pipe; effecting precipitation and granulation while adding water so that the acetic acid to water ratio of the coagulation bath may be maintained at a substantially constant value during said operation; centrifugally separating precipitate particles from the solution; washing these particles with water and drying the particles. |
