The remote control unit 1 has a keypad 2 for control of a television receiver and another keypad 3 for control of a video tape recorder, the two keypads lying back-to-back with a sliding action connection. Each of the keypads is plugged into a common housing 4 incorporating a mercury switch 5, a dry battery power source 6 and an infra-red transmitter 7. Whenever keypad 2 is upwardly facing, switch 5 ensures keypad 2 is connected electrically to power source 6 and to infra-red transmitter 7. Thus keypad 2 is in an operable mode and can be used to control a television. However, if the unit 1 is tilted to a position in which keypad 3 is upwardly facing, then switch 5 ensures the keypad 2 is electrically disconnected from power source 6 and transmitter 7; instead keypad 3 is connected to provide operation of the video tape recorder. <IMAGE> |
