abstract This invention provides a body comprising needle- to pillar-like primary particles of aragonite calcium carbonate irregularly three-dimensionally twined about one another and having an average length (L) of 0.3 to 6.0 mu m and an average width (W) of 0.04 to 0.5 mu m as observed electron microscopically and an aspect ratio (L/W) of 2 to 50, the body containing at least 50% by weight of aragonite crystals as determined by X-ray diffraction and having bulkiness of 5 to 10 ml/g and a specific gravity of 2.75 to 2.93 according to JIS K 5101, and a process for preparing the same.
