Absorbent structures comprise from 1% to 99% of a vegetable-derived pectin-containing absorbent material and from 1% to 99% of a conventional absorbent material. The material contains 15-60% of pectin, of which less than 50% is in the form of a divalent metal salt; 15-80% of cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin or mixtures thereof, and 1-99% of conventional absorbent material. In addition, chloroform soluble lipids (up to 4%), and non lipid material (up to 35%) may also be included. |
