Urethane composite articles comprising long fibres, in excess of 10 mm long, in a urethane matrix, are conveniently formed by placing a dry fibre lay-up in a mould and injecting urethane resin prior to curing. Stiffening zones of fibre reinforced plastics or other stiff material may be incorporated in the articles, and where appropriate the matrix material of the stiffening zone may be co-polymerised with the urethane matrix material in a transition region. Articles in accordance with the invention are described, including an automobile bumper, an automobile drive shaft, a helicopter rotor coupling, an integral tyre and rim, and a zig-zag spring. |
