abstract |
Novel macrolides of the formula 1: <IMAGE> wherein R is formyl or hydroxymethyl; R<1> is hydrogen or C1-6 alkanoyl; R<2> is hydrogen or <IMAGE> and R<3> is hydrogen or C1-6 alkanoyl; provided that one of R<1> or R<3> must be other than hydrogen; can be prepared by contacting macrocin or lactenocin with an acyl donor in the presence of an acylating enzyme system selected from the produced by Streptomyces thermotolerans ATCC 11416, Streptomyces thermotolerans NRRL 15270 or Streptomyces fungicidicus subsp. espinomyceticus ATCC 21574 and are useful in controlling various pathogenic microorganisms such as mycoplasma species. Enzyme systems from NRRL 15270 are also used to acylate tylosin. |
