abstract |
A process for the homopolymerization or copolymerization of alpha -olefins and a catalyst therefor are disclosed. Polyolefins provided by the invention are characterized by high rate of yields and improved stereospecificity which accrue from the use of a catalyst which comprises the combination of: [I] a solid catalyst component having a carrier resulting from contacting (1) a magnesium halide, (2) a compound represented by the formula RnSi(OR)4-n where R is a hydrocarbon moiety of 1 to 24 carbon atoms and n is 1 </= n </= 3, and (3) an aromatic ketone compound; and (4) a titanium compound supported on said carrier; [II] an organometallic compound; and [III] a compound represented by the formula RnSi(OR)4-n where R is a hydrocarbon moiety of 1 to 24 carbon atoms and n is 1 </= n </= 3. |
