titleOfInvention Percutaneous levamisole compositions
abstract Levamisole formulations for treating infection by helminthic parasites by application to the skin of the infected animal to provide localised percutaneous absorption comprise 2-20% levamisole in a solvent comprising a monoterpene fraction, particularly terpinolene, or a mixture of alkylbenzenes higher than xylene. The solvent may include a bland non-irritant diluent, e.g. dimethlsulphoxide. The solvent effects transmission of the levamisole through the skin of the animal to give a systemic internal action. The composition may contain additional active ingredients such as anthelmintic pyrethroids and phenylbutazone as a local anti- inflammatory agent.
