Ultrasonic probe assembly |
abstract |
An ultrasonic probe assembly includes one or more probes 402, 403 mounted in a support member 401 secured to an adaptor 410 through which extend chambers 412, 413 in alignment with the probes. Coupling liquid is fed through ducts 404 to auxiliary chambers 416, and thence to the chambers 412, 413 through outlets 414, 415. The adaptor member 410 consists of a material whose sound wave resistance is approximately equal to that of the coupling liquid and the lateral boundary of the chambers 412, 413 is adapted to the shape of the sonic beam of the transducer of the probe. Thus disturbing reflections from the interface between the adaptor member and the coupling fluid are eliminated. <IMAGE> |
