Novel 2,4-hexadienoic acid derivatives of the general formula: <IMAGE> in which: R represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, Y represents an oxygen atom or a divalent sulphur atom, R<1> represents OR<2>, SR<2> or N(R<2>)2, in which R<2> represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group having 3 to 6 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, an alkynyl group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, a phenyl group or a benzyl group, Ar represents a phenyl, pyridyl, naphthyl, quinoline, phenoxy-phenyl or pyridyloxy-phenyl group, any of which groups may be substituted by one or more substituents selected from halogen atoms, alkyl groups having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkoxyl groups having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, nitro, cyano, trifluoromethyl, acetoxy, acetamido and methoxycarbonyl groups are endowed with weed-killing and phytogrowth regulating activity. |
