abstract |
A process is disclosed for producing a polycaprolactone-modified hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate by the ring-opening polymerization of a hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate with epsilon -caprolactone in which a stannous halide of the general formula:n SnX2n wherein X represents Cl, Br or I is used as a ring-opening polymerization catalyst, and a process for producing a copolymer which comprises copolymerizing, in the presence of a common radical initiator, 5 to 70 wt% of epsilon -caprolactone-modified vinyl monomer represented by the formula:n n<IMAGE>n where R1 is a hydrogen atom or alkyl group; R2 is CmH2m in which m is an integer of 2 or higher; and n is 0.3 to 5 on average and 95 to 30 wt% of at least one other copolymerizable vinyl monomer. |
