abstract | In a process for producing an ethylene polymer by the slurry-type polymerization of ethylene or ethylene and another olefin using a catalyst system comprising a high- activity supported Ziegler catalyst component and an organometallic compound component in the presence of hydrogen as molecular weight regulator in two or more reaction zones connected in series and kept full with the liquid phase to exclude the gas phase, a Ziegler catalyst component of long-lasting high activity is used and the average amount of polymer formation in each reaction zone is kept within a specific range. It is thereby possible to vary the average molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, and density of the polymer as desired. |
