abstract | A mixture of closely related antibiotic substances designated PR-1350 are obtained by aerobically culturing Oidiodendron truncatum Barron. The mixture is a white amorphous powder, the dominant component having an empirical formula: C20H30O6. The substance is soluble in polar organic solvents, poorly soluble in water, and insoluble in saturated hydrocarbons. In ethanol, the ultra-violet absorption lambda <max> is at 230 nm (E<1%>1 cm=304). PR-1350 forms hemiacetals with alcohols e.g. methanol. The complex has bacteriocidal and anti-tumour activity, and may be used in pharmaceutical compositions and as a growth- promoting animal feedstuff additive. |
