titleOfInvention | Cytostatic Compounds |
abstract | A process for the preparation of compounds of general formula <IMAGE> wherein either R<4> represents a beta -hydroxy group and R<3> represents a alpha -ethyl group, or R<4> represents a hydrogen atom and R<3> represents a beta -ethyl group; R'' represents a straight chained alkyl group having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, a branched chained alkyl group having from 3 to 10 carbon atoms and in which the carbon atom attached to the >Na-CH2O- group has a primary or secondary configuration, an alkenyl group having from 3 to 6 carbon atoms, an alkynyl group having from 3 to 6 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group having from 5 to 7 carbon atoms or an aralkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms in the alkyl moiety; R1 is methoxy; and R2 is acetyl and epimers thereof, which comprises reacting a compound of formula above in which R'' differs from the desired value with a large excess of an alcohol R''-OH in which the value of R'' is the one desired. The compounds of general formula (I), other than those wherein R<3> represents an alpha -ethyl group, R<4> represents a beta -hydroxyl group and R'' represents an ethyl group, are also claimed per se and are of use as cytostatic agents. |
