Sour petroleum distillate is treated with an oxidizing agent, e.g. air, in the presence of a catalytic composite comprising a metal chelate mercaptan oxidation catalyst, e.g. a metal phthalocyanine, impregnated on a basic anion exchange resin, e.g. containing amine functional groups, optionally in the presence of an alkaline reagent. The method is particularly useful for sour distillate derived from fluid catalytic cracking purposes. |
