abstract | p-Nitroso-m-halogen-phenols are prepared by treating m-chlor, m-brom, or m-iodo-phenol with nitrous acid. In an example a solution of m-chlorphenol in caustic soda and sodium nitrite in water is slowly acidified with sulphuric acid; hot acids convert the yellow product into a reddish body, possibly the quinone oxime form, which by treatment with alkali yields a pale yellow body which can be precipitated by acids. |
