titleOfInvention Device and transducer for ultrasound echographic examination
abstract A device for ultrasound echographic examination, comprising an ultrasonic transducer, made of an electrostrictive material with non-remanent polarization, in the form of a disc (1) whose principal surfaces are flat or have a finite radius of curvature that is large relative to the diameter of the disc (1), whilst its thickness equals an integral number of times one quarter of the wavelength corresponding to the frequency of the ultrasonic signals to be emitted. One principal surface (2a) of the disc (1) is fully metallized and connected to an electrical circuits (3, CR) for emitting and receiving ultrasonic signals, whilst the other principal surface (2b) is metallized with a series of concentric electrodes (E1 to En) which are insulated with respect to each other and which are connected to respective polarization circuits (CP1 to CPn) which can be adjusted to vary the local sensitivity of the transducer. The sensitivity profile may be a Gaussian curve to eliminate secondary lobes and thus improve resolution in the image. <IMAGE>
