abstract A slowly dissolving oral composition comprises, in the form of compressed lozenges a mixture of aluminium and magnesium antacid salts in a matrix of 25 to 65% of mannitol optionally together with other sugar alcohols, from 3 to 10% of a gel-forming swelling agent e.g. sodium carboxymethyl cellulose or xanthan gum, and 1 to 5% by weight of a hydrophobic magnesium, calcium or aluminium salt of stearic, palmitic, oleic or lauric acids, each of said lozenges containing sufficient of the said antacid salts to maintain the gastric pH at above 3.5.
