titleOfInvention | Recovery of lead values |
abstract | The invention seeks to improve the recovery of lead values from sulfur-containing lead-bearing sources, particularly lead sulfide, by modifying the procedure of halogenating (2) the lead-bearing source at an elevated temperature, washing (5) the halogenated mixture to remove soluble components from insoluble lead halide, leaching (12) the washed mixture with brine to dissolve lead halide, separating (16) elemental sulfur and insoluble residue from the dissolved lead halide and recovering (31) lead values from the resulting solution. According to the invention the dissolved lead halide is treated first with a reducing agent e.g. Pt, Na2S or H2S (19) and then with iron and an oxidizing agent e.g. Cl2, H2O2 or air (25) and is filtered after each treatment (22,28) to remove insoluble residue from the solution containing dissolved lead halide prior to recovery of lead values. <IMAGE> |
