abstract | A method of producing carboxylic acids by catalytic oxidation of aromatic hydrocarbons, in which the oxidation reaction is brought about by a flow of gas having a predetermined oxygen content and is catalyzed by a catalytic complex obtained from low molecular weight aldehydes and/or ketones and salts of transition metals, the oxidation reaction occurring in a solvent medium comprising a low-boiling monocarboxylic acid and dissolving both the catalytic complex and the starting aromatic hydrocarbons, characterised in that the stream of exhausted gas containing oxygen and coming out of the reactor is processed so as to condense the vapours which it conveys outside the autoclave, the condensate is eliminated on the oxidation cycle and the mother liquor containing the oxidation products is recycled unchanged, after recovery of the aforementioned products, to the reactor. |
