abstract | A mixture of optical brighteners has synergistic effect and consists of 98 to 50% of a mixture of 0.05 to 0.95 part of a compound <IMAGE> and 0.95 to 0.05 part of a compound <IMAGE> and 2 to 50% of a compound <IMAGE> wherein X is oxygen or sulphur R<1> and R<2> are H, F, Cl, phenyl, alkyl, alkoxy, dialkylamino, trialkylammonium, acylamino or a free or functionally modified carboxy or sulpho group, or R<1> and R<2> complete a fused benzene ring, or form lower alkylene or 1,3-dioxapropylene, A is cyano, an ester or amide group, <IMAGE> in which R<4> is unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, -(CH2CH2O)n-R or -(CH2)m-CH=CH-R in which n is 1 to 3, m is 0 to 5 and R represents H, alkyl, alkylthioalkyl, or di-substituted aminoalkyl, or R<4> is unsubstituted, mono- or di-substituted phenyl, B represents an unsubstituted or substituted polycyclic aromatic radical having at least three condensed rings, C represents mono- or di-substituted amino, pyrrolidino, piperidino, piperazino or morpholino, alkoxy, hydroxyalkyl, hydroxy-alkoxy, acyloxy, alkylthio or alkylcarbonylthio; and D has the meaning given for C or represents chlorine. |
