abstract | Potentially scale forming or corrosive water systems are treated with a cyclic dimer of 1- hydroxyethane-1, 1 diphosphonic acid or its homologs. Dimer comprises a single 6 membered ring having the formula Figure 1 where R is an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or aliphatic ether group and is particularly effective in conjunction with other threshold agents, anti-corrosive agents, threshold synergist, polyelectrolytes and dispersants, and for treating water systems containing strong oxidising agents such as chromate. |
