titleOfInvention | Carboxylated and hydrogenated polymeric oils which can be used as binders for aqueous paints |
abstract | Modified polymeric oils are made by the addition of at least one, alpha , beta - unsaturated carboxylic compound to a partially hydrogenated conjugated diolefin polymer that is (a) a homopolymer of buta-1,3-diene containing from 50 to 80% of vinyl units, (b) a butadiene- isoprene copolymer containing at least 10% by weight isoprene and having a content of 1,4 units of at least 50%, or (c) a homopolymer of isoprene, the polymer having a number-average molecular weight of from 500 to 10000 and a degree of hydrogenation of from 10 to 60%. Such oils, after modification by treatment with alkali, can be used as binders in aqueous coating compositions. |
