Vacuum apparatus. -A vessel E is provided with a large valve b at the bottom, a valve D low down at the side, and a valve a at the top, the valves b, D, being positively actuated. The lower part of the vessel is immersed in liquid, a vacuum is then created in the vessel and the liquid enters through the valve b. When the liquid reaches the float e, the valve a is opened to admit atmospheric pressure, and the valve D is opened to allow the liquid to flow out and drive machinery.
