abstract Somatostatin analogs of the formula (I) X<1>-Cys(SA)-X<2>-X<3>-Phe-Phe- D-Trp-Lys-Thr-Phe-Thr-Ser-Cys(SA)-OH wherein A is hydrogen, or the A groups represent a direct bond between the sulphur atoms; X<1> is hydrogen, H-Gly, H-Ala-Gly, H- Ala-Ala or H-Gly-Gly-Gly; X<2> and X<3> are independently Gly, D- Leu, D-Phe, D-Tyr, D-Trp, D-Met, D-His, D-Arg, D-Lys, D-Ser, D-Asp, or D-Asn; provided that X<2> and X<3> are not simultaneously Gly; and the pharmacologically-acceptable salts thereof. Compounds (I), which inhibit the release of pituary growth hormone, glucagen and insulin, may be admixed with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
