The roller comprises non-cellular elastomeric polymethane 24 cast around a metal shaft 10 concentrically located in a glass or quartz mould 2, release of the roller from the mould after heat curing and cooling of the polyurethane being facilitated by a dip coating of release agent on the mould, which is either removed by solvent, or treated with a wetting agent, applied when the polyurethane shrinks away from the mould on cooling. An insulating adhesive coating 14 may be applied between the shaft end portions to adhere the polyurethane to the metal shaft. The roller has a Shore A durometer value of between 20 and 40, and a surface finish of between 2 and 10 micro-inches produced by the glass or quartz mould. <IMAGE> |
