titleOfInvention Improvements in, and relating to, motor spirit
abstract Motor spirit is obtained from the liquid deposited in the cylinders in which purified oil-gas is stored at 150 lbs. per sq. in. pressure, by subjecting any fraction distilling between 60 DEG C. and 140 DEG C., or the crude oil freed from gas, to reflux distillation with anhydrous chloride of aluminium or other metal as in the parent Specification; or by similarly treating the crude or gas-free oil or the fractions specified with the metal chloride and chlorine; and afterwards collecting the 70-140 DEG fraction, and washing it with soda or caustic soda solution and with water. Dissolved oil-gas driven off before or during the treatment with metal chloride is purified by passage through alkali hydroxide solution and slaked lime, and is used for heating or lighting or for enriching coal-gas. Preferably, the liquid is first heated with aluminium chloride for about 2 hours, and the chlorine is then passed into the liquid in the still for about 1 1/2 hours. Otherwise the process and apparatus are identical with those described in the parent Specification.
