The skin may be formed in various ways, for example, by dipping, brushing &c. the surface with a solution of bromine, chlorine, iodine, sulphur monochloride, in carbon tetrachloride preferably of about 3 per cent strength, by superficial cold vulcanization with sulphur chloride &c., or by coating with shellac, varnish, nitro-cellulose &c., to which a softening agent such as glycerine may be added. |
