titleOfInvention Improvements in and connected with Transfers.
abstract 5209. Drake Printing Co., McKerrow, A., Walton, H., and Shearsmith, G. E. Feb. 28. Transfers. - In transfers for placing designs on fabrics, wood, glass, leather, or other materials, the design, which is printed upon a carrying-body from which it is detached by heat, is covered with an opaque coating which forms a background so that the transferred design is unaffected by the pattern or colour of the fabric &c. on which it is placed. The opaque coating is covered with an adhesive coating which melts by heat but does not penetrate the opaque coating. The carrying-body may be paper rendered impermeable by being coated with a mixture of gelatine, alum, potash, bichromate of potash, and glycerine. The prepared paper is then provided with a fusible coating consisting of a mixture of coal naphtha, Japan wax, gum thus, and white shellac. The design is printed on this coating by lithographic, off-set, or other printing-means and is then coated with Cremnitz white mixed with a slow-drying oil. When dry, the opaque covering is coated with a fusible adhesive consisting of a mixture of gum damar, gum thus, and turpentine.
