titleOfInvention | Improvements in the Preparation of Monochlorhydrin. |
abstract | 26,036. Sprengstoffwerke R. Nahnsen & Co. Feb. 11, [Convention date]. Monochlorhydrin is obtained by treating glycerine with hydrochloric acid gas in vacuo at such temperatures above 100‹ C. as will permit the monochlorhydrin to distil off; the monochlorhydrin is separated from the aqueous hydrochloric acid, which distils over with it, by fractional distillation. The process can be rendered continuous by continuously introducing the requisite supply of glycerine. In a modification of the process, glycerine is allowed to trickle down through a vacuum chamber filled with contact substances, such as shards or earthenware balls, and heated to 150-160‹ C., while hydrochloric acid gas is admitted at the bottom of the chamber; the reaction products distil off at the top of the chamber and are fractionated. |
