titleOfInvention Improvement in the Manufacture of Anhydrous Hydrosulphites.
abstract 25,872. Kinzlberger & Co. Nov. 25, 1909, [Convention date]. Hyposulphites.-Anhydrous hyposulphites are obtained by causing formic acid or formates to react with sulphurous acid, sulphites, or bisulphites in the absence of water, formates or sulphates or other salts being added to provide the necessary base when formic and sulphurous acids are used. In the examples, an alcoholic solution of acid sodium formate is heated with sulphurous acid; an alcoholic solution of ammonia is mixed with an alcoholic solution of sulphurous acid, and potassium formate is added; and powdered sodium bisulphite is added to melted ammonium formate, the product being freed from salts of ammonia by heating in vacuo. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) includes other examples in which sulphurous acid is introduced into a mixture of sodium bisulphite, ammonium formate, and 96 per cent alcohol, and a mixture of sodium chloride, ammonia, 90 per cent alcohol, sulphurous acid, and ammonium formate is boiled together. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
