titleOfInvention Manufacture of Ortho-oxybenzene-carboxylic Acid Ethers of the Phenyl or Naphthyl Series.
abstract 23,974. Abel. C. D., [Akt.-Ges. f³r Anilin Fabrikation]. Nov. 5. o-Oxybenzene carboxylic acid ethers of the general formula where X is the residue of a phenol, or naphthol, or a homologue or derivative thereof, are produced by heating an alkali salt of o-chlorbenzoic acid with a mixture either of a phenolate with the same phenol, or of a naphtholate with the same naphthol, preferably in the presence of copper or a copper salt. In examples, the phenyl ether, the o-cresol ether, the p-cresol ether, the guaiacol ether, and the #-naphthol ether of salicylic acid are so produced.
