Condensers.-Condenser plates are insulated with cellulose esters such as cellulose tetracetate. Formic, propionic, butyric, benzoic, oleic, angelic, and other compound esters may be employed, or the amorphous cellulose from decomposed cellulose xanthate. The ester &c. is dissolved in chloroform &c., and its brittleness may be reduced with phenol, cresol, or castor oil. The mixture may be rendered adhesive by the addition of Canada balsam, Venice turpentine, or rubber. |
