abstract | 2907. Lake, H. H., [Farbwerke M³hlheim vorm. A. Leonhardt & Co.] Feb. 11. Dyes, artificial.-New greenish-blue dyes, which yield bright and even shades on woo), and are soluble in water, and sufficiently fast to alkalies, are produced by first condensing tetramethyl- or tetraethyl-diamidobenzhydrol with p-toluenesulphonic acid by heating these compounds with concentrated sulphuric acid on a water bath ; then further sulphonating the leuco monosulphonic acid thus produced by heating it with fuming sulphuric acid containing 20 per cent. of SO3 until the solution of a sample in dilute alkali ceases to be precipitated by common salt ; and finally oxidizing the leuco-disulphonic acid thus obtained by means of lead peroxide, or the like. The dye is isolated by evaporating its aqueous solution to dryness, or by saturating the solution with sodium sulphate. |
