titleOfInvention A New Process for Manufacturing Compounds of Acetamide.
abstract 12,676. Abel, C. D., [Actiengesellschaft fiir Anilin Fabrikation]. June 6. Medicinal preparations.-Acetamide ethers of phenols and aromatic carboxylic acids, which are intended for medicinal uses, are produced by reacting with alkaline salts of phenols, aromatic carboxylic acids, or their substitution derivatives, upon chloracetamide. By this process the following compounds, some of which have been previously prepared by other processes, are obtained, viz. :- Phenoxyl-acetamide, guaiacoxyl-acetamide, alpha- and #-naphthoxyl-acetamide, p-nitrophenoxyl-acetamide, acetamide ether of salicylamide, tribromophenoxyl - acetamide, acetyl - pamidophenoxylacetamide, and the acetamide ethers of salicylic acid, p-oxybenzoic acid, and o- and p-nitrobenzoic acid. The process is carried out, for example, by heating a mixture of phenol, caustic potash lye, alcohol, and cbloracetamide on a water bath at the reflux cooler for several hours. Water is then added, the solution is made alkaline, and the crystals of phenoxylacetamide which separate are filtered off, washed, and recrystallized from boiling water.
