Insulating-compositions.-Vegetable or other oils are solidified by mixture with drying-materials such as zinc sulphate, sugar of lead, or, preferably, copper sulphate, forced into the oil by compressed air, and rolled and sifted with litharge and prefer- ably mixed in a pug-mill &c. with leather dust, cork dust, sawdust, or pulverized peat. The composition is used as a covering for telegraph wires, to which it is applied by forcing through a die as in coating with gutta-percha &c. |
