titleOfInvention Improved manufacture of calcium, magnesium and lithium acetylsalicylates
abstract Calcium, magnesium, or lithium carbonate is caused to react with an equivalent amount of acetylsalicylic acid in the presence of a small quantity of water, so that the salt is obtained mainly in solid form. Alcohol and ether may be used for washing the salt, or alcohol may be added before filtration. The aqueous filtrate may be used in the preparation of fresh batches of salt. Specifications 4986/12 and 10946/14 are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, the metallic oxides or hydrates may be used instead of the carbonates.ALSO:Lithium acetylsalicylate is obtained by the reaction of lithium carbonate with an equivalent quantity of acetylsalicylic acid in the presence of a small quantity of water, so that the salt is obtained mainly in solid form. Alcohol and ether may be used for washing the salt, or alcohol may be added before filtration. The aqueous filtrate may be used in the preparation of fresh batches of salt. Specifications 4986/12 and 10946/14, [both in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, lithium oxide or hydroxide may be used instead of the carbonate.
