titleOfInvention Improvements in and relating to the reduction of nitro-compounds
abstract Amino compounds are prepared by passing nitro compounds such as nitrobenzene and nitrotoluene, in the vapour phase and together with hydrogen, water gas, &c., over or in contact with the copper catalyst of Specification 166,249; or in the place of hydrogen as such, there may be employed a body such as secondary butyl alcohol, which is capable of being dehydrogenated under the conditions suitable for the reduction of the nitro compounds, in which case there is obtained in addition to the amino compound, methyl ethyl ketone, or if methyl alcohol is employed, the reaction product of formaldehyde and aniline. The catalyst is revivified by heating in air to temperatures between 300 and 1000 DEG C.
