titleOfInvention | Preservative composition for preserving and renewing surfaces |
abstract | 1532898 Organopolysiloxane preservative compositions VERY IMPORTANT PRODUCTS Inc 26 March 1976 12266/76 Headings C3T and C3L [Also in Divisions D1 and B2] A preservative composition comprises an emulsion of at least one water emulsifiable organopolysiloxane fluid having a viscosity of 100 to 100,000 c.s. at ambient temperatures, and based on the weight of the polysiloxane fluid from 65 to 5000% wt. of water and from 15 to 65% wt. of at least two water-miscible polyols, the nature and relative ratios of the polyols being such that one polyol contributes most to improve adhesion of the other constituents to a treated surface and the other polyol contributes most to an improved appearance of the treated surface. The composition can be used for preserving and renewing surfaces, particularly natural and synthetic polymers, rubbers, wood, leather, metals and porcelain, by wetting the surface with the composition allowing the composition to penetrate the surface preferably for at least 24 hours, and repeating the wetting and penetration steps at least once. The organopolysiloxane fluid may be a trimethylsilyl-terminated polydimethyl siloxane which may be partially substituted with e.g. vinyl, trifluoropropyl and amino groups. Suitable polyols include glycerin, diethylene glycol, propylene glycols, butylene glycols, hexanetriol, dipropylene glycol, tetramethylene glycol, pentaerythritol, diepentene glycol, tetraethylene glycol, dimethylhexanediol, 2,2-dimethyl - 1,3, - butanediol, dimethyloldioxane, tetraethylene glycol, ethylene glycol, liquid polyethylene and polypropylene glycols, mannitol and sorbitol. A preferred composition comprises, as the polyol component, 0À5 to 10% wt. of diethylene glycol and 60 to 10% wt. of glycerin, based on the weight of the organopolysiloxane fluid. Optional ingredients include an emulsifier, e.g. nonylphenol, and a rust inhibitor, e.g. sodium nitrite or an organic phosphite. The compositions protect the surfaces against the effect of water, dirt, ozone, ultraviolet rays, oxygen and the elements of smog. In the examples natural rubber and automobile tyres are treated as above. |
