titleOfInvention Improvements in the manufacture of anthraquinone derivatives
abstract Condensation products, probably azomethine compounds, are obtained by heating 1-amino-2-methylanthraquinone or its substitution products, or isomeric amino-2-methylanthraquinones, or 2-methylanthraquinone itself, with aromatic nitro compounds in the presence of alkaline reagents; primary aromatic amines may be added to the reaction mixture. The products are vat dyestuffs, and may be hydrolyzed by acids to give 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-aldehyde, or its substitution products or isomers, or anthraquinone-2-aldehyde, respectively. According to examples, condensation products are obtained by heating (1) 1-amino-2-methylanthraquinone with nitrobenzene and potassium carbonate or with nitrobenzene, aniline, and potassium acetate or caustic soda; (2) 1-amino-2-methylanthraquinone with m-nitraniline, naphthalene, and potassium carbonate; (3) 1-amino-2-methylanthraquinone with b -naphthylamine, nitrobenzene, and potassium carbonate; (4) 4-p-toluido - 1 - amino - 2 - methylanthraquinone, nitrobenzene, aniline, and potassium acetate; (5) 1 : 5-diamino-2-methylanthraquinone, nitrobenzene, aniline, and potassium carbonate; (6) 3-amino-2-methylanthraquinone, nitrobenzene, aniline, and potassium carbonate; (7) 2-methylanthraquinone, nitrobenzene, aniline, and potassium carbonate. Examples are also given of the preparation of 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-aldehyde, 4-p-toluido-1-aminoanthraquinone-2-aldehyde, 1 : 5-diaminoanthraquinone-2-aldehyde, 3-aminoanthraquinone-2-aldehyde, and anthraquinone-2-aldehyde from these condensation products. Specifications 7194/01, 24883/10, and 8917/14 are referred to.
