1530516 Esterified copolymers NIPPON OIL CO Ltd 5 Aug 1976 [5 Aug 1975] 32728/76 Heading C3P Esterified copolymers are obtained by reaction of a copolymer of (a) cyclopentadiene, a cyclopentadiene oligomer, or a substituted cyclopentadiene or oligomer thereof, and (b) a hydroxy- or epoxy-substituted α,#-unsaturated monomer selected from hydroxyalkyl and glycidyl acrylates and methacrylates, and allyl and methallyl glycidyl ethers, with (B) acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid. The products may be dissolved in monomeric solvents and formulated into printing inks curable by heat or radiation. In Examples, (1) dicyclopentadiene/2-hydroxyethyl acrylate copolymer is reacted with acrylic acid, and then mixed with trimethylolpropane triacrylate; (2) dicyclopentadiene / glycidyl methacrylate is reacted with methacrylic acid, and then mixed with diethylene glycol diacrylate; and (3) crude dicyclopentadiene/allyl glycidyl ether copolymer is reacted with acrylic acid, and then mixed with trimethylolpropane triacrylate; the final product in each case being mixed with pigments, curing aids and other additives to form curable printing varnishes. |
